What's Happening at Central Motorways

Murray Jenkinson is the owner of Central Motorways and has a life time interest in Buses and Coaches.

Originating from the small south Otago coal mining town of Kaitangata, Murray enjoyed an after school job at Reids Kaitangata Motors where he cleaned and carried out general duties at this small bus and truck business.

At 26 years of age Murray acquired ownership of Central Motorways which at the time consisted of three aging Bedford buses and one mini bus. From these small beginnings in the area we know as "Dunstan" the heart of Central Otago Murray operated two daily contracts, an airport service, a rural mail run and charter bus excursions. Today our up to date tour and charter coaches regularly travel the length and breadth of the South and North Island for the most discerning of customers for any occasion or purpose.

Murray really enjoys his involvement with in the passenger transport industry but the real passion has always been for his customers and the people he has meet since ownership of Central Motorways back in January 1979. Supporting the New Zealand Bus and Coach Association Murray has held a number of positions on the council for most of the time he has been involved in the industry.

His passion on leisure days is riding his large open road motorcycle and driving his black 1938 V8 Ford Coupe, and don't be all surprised if you meet Murray in the driver seat of one of the Central Motorways coaches somewhere about the country.

The secret to Murray's success in operating an efficient and accomplished bus company is to work along side dedicated employees and provide friendly and courteous service to everyone on matter how small the task at hand.

Rene Cummings is the office administrator for Central Motorways, starting employment with us in 1988 she has seen many changes in the company as it has grown from strength to strength. Rene has not lost any of the enthusiasm about her work and responsibilities that go with the role. As the Administration Manager and front line contact, Rene is an integral part of this smooth running progressive and accomplished private Bus & Coach business.

Originating from the small West Coast township of Westport situated across the Southern Alps in the South Island, Rene settled in Alexandra here in Central Otago with her family in 1970. The original intention was to be in Alexandra for 5 years, but found the area a great place to raise a family and have never looked back!

Out side of work Rene is an accomplished sports person with past involvement in and participation and administration both on and off the field in Hockey, Swimming, Squash, and Harriers. She has also managed to fit in three 3 half marathons. More recently golf has taken over in her sporting interests and has achieved the elusive Hole in One at Alexandra Golf Club.

As part of the dedicated team that supports our buses and coaches on the road 7 days a week and around the clock, Rene understands our customers expectations and continually strives for perfection. With a large and varied customer base, ranging from school children to elderly travel club members embarking on their annual coach holiday tour, from corporate, business, and sports organization clients, all receive courteous and professional service from Rene.

If you represent a school or group wishing to arrange educational travel close to home or throughout New Zealand you will feel completely comfortable with Rene when dealing with your inquiries and travel arrangements

In the last couple of years Michael Harrison has joined the company to act as the Central Motorways Manager.

Straight out of University Michael secured a management role with another Passenger Transport company in Queenstown and has now spent the last decade with various companies holding similar positions. After a recent brief stint in the movie entertainment industry the call of the buses proved too strong and he's back doing what he loves best.

With family based in the area Michael and his wife now call Cromwell home and are thoroughly enjoying the central Otago climate and the great leisure activities that can be enjoyed in the region.

Michael is a passionate "Bus Man" and would relish the chance to discuss engaging the Central Motorways fleet and drivers with whatever transport requirments that you or the people that you represent, have.
